//25 YEARS HOMO MONUMENT//remembering,  celebrating and connecting - an exhibition about meeting each other

April 5 (opening) - May 29, 2012

IHLIA-square (6th floor Public Library Amsterdam)

In 2012 the Homo monument celebrates its 25th anniversary. This special monument in the centre of Amsterdam is erected in remembrance of the victims of violence against sexual minorities from across the world. But is also used to celebrate the successes of LGBT emancipation in the Netherlands and to make a connection with the general public.

IHLIA organises an exhibition about 25 years of LGBT emancipation in the Netherlands based on the history of the Homomonument Foundation and eight other LGBT specific organisations who also celebrate their anniversary: Vrouwenkoor Dissonant (women choir), Mannenkoor  Manoeuvre
(men choir), Gay Swim Amsterdam (sport), Vereniging De Trut (bar), MVS gaystation (media), COC Jong & Out (education, awareness), Stichting Secret Garden (gay and muslim) en de Stichting Homoseksualiteit en Krijgsmacht (gay and army). The exhibition wants to show that besides it's fun, it's still needed that sexual minorities can meet each other in a protected environment, can develop their own identity and therefore are more empowered to face the world.
